What Are the Common Habits of Silver Arowana?

The Silver Arowana (Scientific Name: Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) is relatively large in size, strong in body, fast in growth rate, and large in food intake.

They like to live in weakly acidic or neutral soft water. The best living water temperature is between 24℃ - 28℃. Therefore, the fish tank water temperature regulator may be in need for raising Silver Arowanas. They like to eat animal bait. Studies have found that Silver Arowanas are docile and have the strongest fertility among Osteoglossidae fish.

In nature, Silver Arowanas are mainly distributed in the upstream and downstream of the Amazon River along Guyana, South America and Brazil.

During the rainy season, the floods caused the water levels of all the tributaries of the Amazon River to large swollen surge, so that large Silver Arowanas migrated scattered to nearby lakes and swamps.

Although they live in their own environment, this species rarely appears in the mainstream of the Amazon River. Water hazard on tributaries, submerged shrubbery along the Banks, and even “water steppe” with floating grasses are all the habitats for Silver Arowana.

Silver Arowana is carnivorous. But the wild species, in addition to hunting fish, in about 10 cm of their juvenile stage, they will also prey on shrimp, water fleas, midges, and other crustaceans and aquatic insects for food. They also catch small fish swimming 3 to 4 centimeters above the water.
