Basic knowledge jellyfish care and buying jellyfish tanks
1. Make sure the aquarium has a good water flow system.
Almost all jellyfish aquariums need to create rotating water flow inside to help the jellyfish move. Good water flow refers to the water flow that can produce a good rotation effect. The flow of water needs to have mild characteristics-no explosive force and destructive force. In a well-designed aquarium, the gentle flow can even be directly described as laminar.
It is very easy to distinguish the quality of water flow. Observe the effect of jellyfish swimming to the flow outlet. They should not be washed away by the water flow from the outlet. In addition, bubbles should not be seen at the water outlet. The bubbles are not good for jellyfish. The water flow should be at the bottom of the rotating water body as much as possible, and it should be able to ensure the natural movement of the jellyfish.
Observe the jellyfish moving in the current, the jellyfish should not be wrapped in the center of the rotating water flow. They should be in a floating state, with tentacles naturally extending and fluttering. You should be able to easily adjust the rate of water flow rotation. If a jellyfish aquarium can not adjust the water flow rate, then you should consider buying other products. Because you always need to adjust the water speed. Small jellyfish need a small flow rate, if the aquarium can not meet it, then give it up.
2. Identify good food sources.
Good food refers to particles that are about 0.5 mm in diameter, have the ability to suspend, and are rich in protein. Of course, West Coast Sea Nettle jellyfish (depending on body size) can also eat twice or more food, but these foods should still have the characteristics of floating in the jellyfish aquarium. So what is the concept of suspension? Specifically, the rotating water flow is enough to disperse these particles in the water, and the jellyfish can touch and prey.
If you see food accumulating on the bottom of the tank and the jellyfish swims comfortably under the current water flow, it means that the food particles are a bit large. Jellyfish do not swim to the bottom to prey on them. If the food is not sucked out in time, it will rot. When purchasing jellyfish foods, remember to ask about the volume of the granules and the composition of the additives.
3. Maintain good water quality.
High-quality seawater. This is a very vague concept, what exactly does it mean? For jellyfish, it means using reverse osmosis deionized water. Never use tap water. No matter what sea salt or additives are used, you will never use tap water or bottled water. Bottled water does not necessarily meet FDA requirements. Investing in reverse osmosis deionization equipment can keep you away from phosphates and nitrates. Change the filter cotton and 5% seawater every week, and the activated carbon every month. Never add water directly to the main tank, it is best to add it in the sewage area. This can cause the seawater in the center of the aquarium to change slowly. In addition, to set the high quality aquarium water flow control valve is also a good way to maintain good water quality.
